Setting My Own Rules for the Social Media Apps

These applications are completely free to use, meaning you do not pay them money in exchange for their services. Instead, you pay with your attention. They earn their revenue through advertisements. Because they possess your personalized information (including your likes, dislikes, and comments) they can serve you highly targeted ads.

The Rules Of My Digital Life

May 25, 20265 min read

1. LinkedIn is a Career Tool, Not a Social Arena#

I will use LinkedIn only for:

  • job opportunities,
  • professional visibility,
  • market awareness,
  • career growth.

I will not spend energy on:

  • unnecessary posting,
  • validation through likes,
  • performative networking,
  • endless scrolling.

My professional value is built through real work, not online activity.

2. Instagram is an Information Filter, Not a Social Space#

I will use Instagram selectively to follow:

  • educational pages,
  • industry trends,
  • creative inspiration,
  • topics aligned with my interests and goals.

I will not engage in:

  • emotional scrolling,
  • social comparison,
  • unnecessary conversations,
  • attention-seeking behavior.

I choose useful content over digital noise.

3. News Will Come From Direct Sources#

I will consume news directly from trusted news websites.

I will avoid:

  • algorithm-driven outrage,
  • sensational content,
  • comment wars,
  • emotionally manipulative media cycles.

My goal is awareness without mental exhaustion.

4. WhatsApp is for Real Relationships#

I will use WhatsApp to communicate intentionally with:

  • friends,
  • colleagues,
  • family,
  • professional contacts.

I will maintain professionalism, clarity, and respect.

If I want to share thoughts, stories, or personal reflections, I will share them privately with people who genuinely matter instead of broadcasting them publicly.

5. Deep Thoughts Belong in Blogs, Not Reactions#

If I develop a meaningful perspective, I will write a blog.

Writing helps me:

  • think clearly,
  • organize ideas,
  • improve communication,
  • create long-term value,
  • express myself without unnecessary conflict.

I prefer thoughtful contribution over impulsive reaction.

6. Twitter/X is for Knowledge and Field Updates#

I will use Twitter/X only for:

  • industry updates,
  • technology trends,
  • research,
  • learning from experts.

I will avoid:

  • arguments,
  • outrage culture,
  • ideological battles,
  • toxic engagement.

I do not need to participate in every conversation to stay informed.

My Core Philosophy

  • Attention is energy.
  • Not every platform deserves engagement.
  • Silence is often more powerful than reaction.
  • Private growth matters more than public visibility.
  • Meaningful communication is better than constant communication.
  • I will protect my mental clarity from digital chaos.
  • I seek depth, focus, learning, and peace.

I choose intentional digital behavior over compulsive social participation.
