Books are personal things; they should never be shared with anyone else if you bought them for yourself. They are personal because they represent the way you have learned something, the time you have spent, the effort you made to understand the author — the author’s perspective, point of view, and thoughts. You try to live in the author’s shoes and see through their eyes.
There may be moments when your thoughts don’t match theirs, but you read to understand the author. If you like a book, you can suggest that someone buy a new copy for themselves. However, sharing the same physical book feels like betraying the unique way you connected with the author.
